FAQ
Access Control Systems questions
Do I need to replace my doors to add access control?
Almost never. Most existing commercial doors accept an electric strike or electrified lock, and standalone keypad locks fit standard door prep. We assess each door and work with what is there.
What happens during a power outage?
It depends on how each door is configured. Fail-secure doors stay locked; fail-safe doors unlock. Battery backup is common on main entrances, and mechanical key override is retained so the building is never inaccessible.
Can access control keep a record of who entered?
Reader-based and networked systems log credential activity by user and time. Simple standalone keypads with a shared code do not, which is one reason to give each person their own credential.
Is access control worth it for a small business?
Often yes, even at one or two doors, if you have turnover or hand out keys to contractors. A standalone keypad lock is inexpensive compared with repeated rekeys.
Can you take over a system installed by someone else?
Usually. We can assess an existing system, repair or replace failed components, and reconfigure users and schedules. Some proprietary platforms are locked to their installer, and we will tell you if yours is.
