Commercial work is a different discipline from residential. Doors cycle hundreds of times a day, hardware has to meet fire and life-safety code, staff turnover means key control is an ongoing process rather than a one-time job, and a door that will not lock can mean a business that cannot close or cannot open.

We handle business lockouts, commercial rekeying, master key systems, access control, panic bar and exit device installation, commercial lock installation and repair and high-security locks.

Key control is a process, not a purchase

The most common commercial security failure we find has nothing to do with the locks. It is that nobody knows how many keys exist or who has them. Staff leave, contractors get temporary keys, managers cut spares, and after a few years the key list is fiction.

Fixing that means three things: a rekey to reset the current state, a key system that makes unauthorized copies difficult (a restricted keyway rather than a "Do Not Duplicate" stamp), and a written record of issued keys. For higher-turnover doors, access control removes keys from the equation entirely: you deactivate a credential in seconds instead of rekeying a building.

Code compliance and exit hardware

Commercial doors carry legal obligations that residential doors do not. Required exits must open in a single motion without a key, hardware must meet accessibility requirements, and fire-rated doors have to keep their listed hardware and self-closing function intact.

That is why padlocks and chains on exit doors, or a deadbolt added to a required egress door, create real liability. We install and repair compliant panic hardware and exit devices and will tell you when a proposed change would create a code problem, before it becomes an inspection or insurance issue.

FAQ

Commercial locksmith questions

Can you rekey our building after an employee leaves?

Yes. Employee turnover is one of the most common reasons businesses rekey. We can rekey selected doors or the whole building, and set up a master key system so managers keep one key while staff keys are limited to their areas.

What is the difference between a master key system and access control?

A master key system is mechanical: a hierarchy of keys where a master opens many doors and sub-keys open fewer. Access control is electronic: codes, cards or fobs that can be issued and revoked instantly with an activity record. Many businesses use both.

Is it legal to padlock or chain an exit door?

No. Required exits must open from inside in a single motion without a key or special knowledge. Chains and padlocks on exit doors are a code violation and a serious liability. Compliant panic hardware achieves security without blocking egress.

Do you work on aluminum storefront doors?

Yes. Storefront doors use narrow-stile hardware, mortise cylinders and specific latch and lock types. We service and replace storefront cylinders, latches, closers and exit devices.

Can you set up keys so managers open everything and staff open only their area?

Yes, that is exactly what a master key system does. We design the hierarchy around your organization chart and document it so it can be maintained as staff and space change.
